One juror called it " a grand. pastorally sited gentleman's farmhouse" with a great symmetrical floor plan incorporating "outdoor spaces, elegant materials selection and detailing both internally and externally." The 6,000sf home of Gary and Marilyn Gilmer was designed to look as if it had always been there. Its unpretentious front elevation fits comfortably in style with its rural neighbors. Inside, the home unfolds to reveal two large wings set at 45 degree angles embracing private interior and exterior spaces of self-assured elegance. A porte-cochere opens into a marble entry flanked one one side by a wood paneled library (cover photo) and , on the other, by a dining room with a hand painted mural commissioned from a local artist. The living room features a 19-foot coffered ceiling illuminated by cove lighting and a bank of clerestory windows. One angled wing comprises the kitchen, breakfast and sunroom. The opposite wing is the master suite, with private morning area, his-and-her baths with walk in closets, custom wood cabinetry and heated marble floors. each of the rear-facing rooms enjoys a view of the pool area and a 1,200sf pool house. Designed by Anderson residential designer Don Chapman, with interior design by Anna Cheek, also of Chapman Design Group, Inc.(864 224-7563). It was the last project built by veteran Anderson builder Saylors & Walters before the 2002 retirement of Doug, Kendel and Harold Walters. |
